Birthdays at the Cottage Care Home! (August, 2020)

At Conway Group Healthcare, we understand the importance of celebrating birthdays and other significant milestones; from parties with live entertainment to small quiet affairs of afternoon tea and cake. This month, at The Cottage Care Home, Staff and Residents have enjoyed a number of Birthday celebrations. We had Resident, Lena who was 90 years young in July, next up was the lovely Oonagh who turned 91 and just yesterday Resident, Elaine turned 62! With gifts, singing, flowers and balloons these ladies enjoyed their special day. Check out Ozzy the toy dog, gifted to Elaine by her friend Barbara. Resident, Adrienne is pictured below, modelling a lovely new outfit – doesn’t she look wonderful!

Brooklands Antrim grow a vegetable garden! (August, 2020)

Have a look at what the folk in Brooklands, Antrim have been up to this week. We began cultivating our very own vegetable patch by planting and labelling an array of wonderful foods! With some lettuces and scallions successfully grown we await beetroot, onions, carrots, herbs and much more. Needless to say our green fingered Residents are absolutely delighted and cannot wait to collect the first crop! Fingers crossed for more sunshine.

The Cottage Care Home enjoys seated exercises! July, 2020)

Resident Margaret, who simply loves her fresh new hair colour, smiles for a photograph.
We’ve had the recent addition of a large television to our activity equipment. With this, Activity Therapist Olivia, has implemented gentle seated exercise activities into the weekly programme. Residents have enjoyed watching health educational programmes, learning about physical health and its benefits on overall wellbeing. We have sourced online workshops from the website of ‘Age NI’ who teamed up with Dame Mary Peters to launch an exercise programme aimed specifically at keeping older people moving during the extended Covid-19 lockdown. “Move with Mary” is a series of five exercise videos. They cater for every level of capability, ranging from simple seated stretches, to balance, strength and gentle aerobic exercises. This has been received brilliantly in the Care Home. ?

Flower arranging at Ailsa Lodge Care Home. (July, 2020)

On Friday we engaged in a fantastic morning of flower arranging; Residents gathered in the dining room and worked together to build their very own floral jar displays, using a variety of lovely flowers and pot pourri, whilst sipping cups of tea and chatting with one another. Residents were delighted with the results and have displayed their masterpieces in their rooms and outside in the garden. Other activities that have been enjoyed include baking, painting, crafts, singing and outdoor gardening.
We would like to give thanks to all those who have kindly donated hampers, cards of support and other thoughtful sentiments. ?

Brooklands Antrim throw a summer party! (July, 2020)

This week in Brooklands Antrim, activities were fun and in full swing! Thank you to Musician Catherine McCallum for attending the home and providing a wonderful live outdoor performance. Resident Kieran particularly enjoyed the singing by commenting on how pleasant the afternoon was.  ?
Residents enjoyed video calls to loved ones, ‘Car-Wash’ games, as well as garden activities and colouring-in sessions. While each of our Care Homes have fantastic Activity Coordinators who plan activities and events, every member of the team is involved in delivering meaningful moments.
Staff across Conway Group Healthcare have been going to great lengths in order to keep Residents safe, stimulated and happy. ?

Brooklands Dunmurry create an enchanted garden! (July, 2020)

At Conway Group Healthcare we are continuously reviewing and improving methods to maintain Residents’ mental and physical healthy. Weekly activity programmes offer options to make things; tapping into the creative drive that resides in everybody. This creative drive just needs to be unleashed in clever and inventive ways that triggers the imagination and inspires the confidence to try. Staff and Residents at Brooklands, Dunmurry have been exercising tremendous creativeness in the past week, by taking old and unused house-hold ornaments and up-cycling them to produce beautiful garden decor. Check out the new enchanted fairy garden. Residents took to the garden to admire the completed four-week project. In a flower garden, each specific flower provides beauty and aromas; now with the added magic of a fairytale theme, tea-time outside will be that little bit more enjoyable – Great work to all who contributed.
